The installation of contiguous stereochemistries across the tetrahydrofuran scaffold was achieved through stereocontrolled conjugate addition, aldol reaction, and a protection-free intramolecular C-O bond formation (furan ring formation) via chemoselective generation of the benzylic carbocation.
