China's increasing demand for energy, desire for energy security and growing environmental awareness has led to new government policies and laws that promote renewable energy. China now has the most ambitious targets for renewable energy by any country in the world. These factors have lead to a surge of inward investment from foreign wind energy companies and the rapid growth of domestic Chinese companies. This study has focused on Suzlon Energy, the rapidly expanding India based company, who have recently opened a manufacturing facility in Tianjin, China. It is through a case study on Suzlon that we aim to learn about the challenges for wind energy development in China and more broadly about doing business in China.
