Description
Summary:Electric power is needed for the community for various purposes. The electricity needs are increasing along with the development of community life. To a dress this issue, the construction of steam power plant (PLTU) in Port Kariangau, which will supply power through submarine cable in Balikpapan Bay to Port Penajam, is under plan. Construction of the transmission line consists of the installation of underground power cable and submarine power cable from the PLTU Kariangau to GI Petung that connecting the Kariangau landing point side to the Penajam landing point side. Routes design of submarine cable installation starts from the Kariangau landing point side, continues across the sea in the Strait of Balikpapan towards the Penajam landing point side. Designing an optimal routes of submarine cable installation requires a lot of data, not just by using topographic map and bathymetry map, but also other data such as side scan sonar map, magnetic anomalies map, and sub bottom profile map to find out more information of seabeds. In addition, submarine cable installation is also one of the jobs with high value of marine engineering because installation costs are quite large, so we need an optimal route design of submarine cable installation. This project has designed the submarine cable installation for 150 KV transmission line from the Kariangau landing point side, and then crosses the Strait of Balikpapan towards the Penajam landing point side. Some of the key considerations in designing are the topography in the area around the landing point, the depth and shape of the sea floor terrain, condition of magnetic anomalies and seafloor sediment layer structure along the corridor plans submarine cable lines. The result of this project is a route design of submarine cable map from the Kariangau landing point side to the Penajam landing point side. The map of submarine cables is considered in complience with Term of Reference (TOR) of the project. Therfore, it can be said that the result of the routes design of submarine cable between the Kariangau landing point side-the Penajam landing point side is an optimal design.
