This study focuses on: (1) the motivation for joint venture formation in the context of developing-to-developing country; (2) the partner selection process; (3) the selection criteria used to assess suitability of local partner in the context of developing-todeveloping country; (4) the country effect on the motivation for joint venture formation and partner selection criteria; and (5) the industry effect on the motivation for joint venture formation and partner selection criteria. Fifty-four and twenty-eight Singapore firms with joint ventures in China and India were studied.
