الملخص:This paper close-reads selected sections in women’s magazines published in Singapore, Her World, and Female, to reveal the ways in which women’s magazines sought to shape local beauty culture amidst great political and social change in Singapore. It argues that women’s magazines created the expectation for readers to both consume trans-national beauty commodities and adhere to trans-national beauty practices that were published by the ‘experts’ in the beauty columns of the magazine.
