The Philippines is no stranger to art, especially the visual arts and painting as a whole. This study seeks to show exactly this through the methods that were used in order to bring art closer to the public in Metro Manila. It looks into how Metro Manila was able to do so from 1986-2020, from the start of the Aquino Administration to the year before the Covid- 19 pandemic. This study uses a descriptive-analytical design and approach in order to see how this is done. Additionally, structural-functionalism is used in this study to look into how all the components are able to aid in popularizing art. The research explains how the Post-Marcos era was able to find to different venues for the government and independent businesses to focus more towards Filipino artists and their works. This in led to changes in the government such as the creation of National Commission for Culture and Arts, as well as the Cultural Center of the Philippines focusing more on local artists. In line with this, the National Museum of Fine Arts was also reestablished as one to take the lead in preserving arts and culture. Because of this, more galleries appeared in malls and in public displays which then gave rise to alternative art spaces and more art events in Metro Manila. It must also be mentioned that in later years, the art market has gained prominence in these events, as most of them have involved purchasing works as an investment or for collection purposes. 2023-07-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/etdb_history/21 https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/context/etdb_history/article/1020/viewcontent/2023_Villarosa_Through_Various_Brushstrokes__The_Popularization_of_Paintings_in.pdf History Bachelor's Theses English Animo Repository Art—History Philippines—Politics and government—1986- Art museums Art Painting Cultural History
