Steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome has poorer prognosis than steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome. Infections are commonly related to relapse and steroid resistance. Urinary tract infection is the most common infection in children with nephrotic syndrome. We are interested to know the relationship between urinary tract infection and steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. Objectives. Our study aims to determine the relationship between urinary tract infection and steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. Methods. The study design was case-control comparing steroid resistant and steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome with risk factor of urinary tract infection. The study was conducted at Dr.Sardjito General Hospital from June 2005 to Desember 2010. Odds ratio was generated. Results. Of 148 children with nephrotic syndrome there are 37(25%) children with urinary tract infection. There are 21 children of steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome who have urinary tract infection and 16 children of steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome. There is no significant correlation between urinary tract infection in steroid resistant and steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome OR 1.205 CI 95% (0.56 to 2.56). Conclusion. There is no relationship between urinary tract infection and steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome. [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2012 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , dr. Serasiamy Ritonga and , dr. steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome and steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome. Steroid
resistant nephrotic syndrome has poorer prognosis than steroid sensitive nephrotic
syndrome. Infections are commonly related to relapse and steroid resistance. Urinary
tract infection is the most common infection in children with nephrotic syndrome. We are
interested to know the relationship between urinary tract infection and steroid resistant
nephrotic syndrome.
Objectives. Our study aims to determine the relationship between urinary tract infection
and steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome.
Methods. The study design was case-control comparing steroid resistant and steroid
sensitive nephrotic syndrome with risk factor of urinary tract infection. The study was
conducted at Dr.Sardjito General Hospital from June 2005 to Desember 2010. Odds ratio
was generated.
Results. Of 148 children with nephrotic syndrome there are 37(25%) children with
urinary tract infection. There are 21 children of steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome who
have urinary tract infection and 16 children of steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome.
There is no significant correlation between urinary tract infection in steroid resistant and
steroid sensitive nephrotic syndrome OR 1.205 CI 95% (0.56 to 2.56).
Conclusion. There is no relationship between urinary tract infection and steroid resistant
nephrotic syndrome. |
