Ideally, unmotorized vehicles, motorized vehicles, or public transports have their own lanes regarding traffic safety improvement. The mixed traffic causes unprotected road users become vulnerable. Due to the current situation mentioned, it is interesting to analyze Kyai Mojo section in order to make cycling safer for cyclists of all skill and age levels by providing designated on and off-road cycling facilities, while promoting cycling as an active, healthy lifestyle and also educating cyclists and motorists on safe operating practices (Ottawa Cycling Plan, 2008). This research is carried out by observing and simulating the traffic condition of Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection. Simulations were built using AIMSUN to predict the traffic condition due to the cyclist behaviour. Based on the existing and alternatives simulation result, the general vehicles performance will be compared in terms of travel time, delay and queue length, and environmental impact in terms of fuel consumption and pollution emission. These comparison aims to determine the best scenario to improve the performance in Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection. The result of this research shows that the best scenario recommended in this project is scenario 2 which is providing 1.5 meters of bike lines width in north sides of road network, no widening road and extending it to provide a waiting space for cyclist who wants to turn right in intersection. This scenario results in the reduction of delay time are 17% and 34% in Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection, respectively. The reduction of queue length is 66% and 64% in Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection, respectively. But the travel time is increase as much as 11%. Furthermore, there is almost no change in terms of fuel consumption from before and after implementation, while the reduction of pollution emission is 14.40% for CO2 and 31.04% for NOx. Kyai Mojo section is the main road route linking Godean area and the city center
(Yogyakarta) in which bicycles are quite much used. In this section, many of workers and students go to the city center (to the east) from Godean area in the morning and return home (to the west) in the afternoon by riding their bicycle. Ideally, unmotorized vehicles, motorized vehicles, or public
transports have their own lanes regarding traffic safety improvement. The mixed traffic causes
unprotected road users become vulnerable. Due to the current situation mentioned, it is interesting to analyze Kyai Mojo section in order to make cycling safer for cyclists of all skill and age levels by
providing designated on and off-road cycling facilities, while promoting cycling as an active, healthy
lifestyle and also educating cyclists and motorists on safe operating practices (Ottawa Cycling Plan,
2008).
This research is carried out by observing and simulating the traffic condition of Jatikencana
and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection. Simulations were built using AIMSUN to predict the traffic
condition due to the cyclist behaviour. Based on the existing and alternatives simulation result, the
general vehicles performance will be compared in terms of travel time, delay and queue length, and
environmental impact in terms of fuel consumption and pollution emission. These comparison aims to
determine the best scenario to improve the performance in Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection.
The result of this research shows that the best scenario recommended in this project is
scenario 2 which is providing 1.5 meters of bike lines width in north sides of road network, no
widening road and extending it to provide a waiting space for cyclist who wants to turn right in
intersection. This scenario results in the reduction of delay time are 17% and 34% in Jatikencana and Tentara Rakyat Mataram intersection, respectively.
