The eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 is a large scale disasters and leads to various impact to the people's lives of Sleman. This study aims to explore the change of physical and socio-economic life of society due to the disaster and explain the relationship between these variables. Research sites were located in the Gungan Hamlet Wukirsari Village, Suruh Hamlet and Jaranan Hamlet Argomulyo Village, Cangkringan Subdistrict. The research method used is inductive-qualitative phenomenology approach. After the grand tour, it�s followed by direct observation and in-depth interviews, supported by secondary data. The sampling technique was "snowball" that starts from each head of hamlet. Interviews were recorded in detail and made a summary of the meaning of any information. The research showed that the concept of physical damage to change the order of social and economic activities, uncertainty and economic hardship, mental anguish and restlessness, social relations tenuous. These concepts form a descriptive theory: the change of social and economic life due to physical and psychological damage after a disaster. The common physical linkage to the social and economic life are physical /space changes become a place of economic activity affects the local economy. The changes in the three hamlets are varied due to variations in the scale of the disaster and internal characteristics of local communities.
