總結:It is a study that is aimed at explaining English non-finite verb construction and its role in abstract of research article. Based on its terminology, an abstract of research article is a brief review of each chapter of research article including introduction, method and data, result, and discussion. Since it must be very brief and able to illustrate the whole process of research as well, abstract can only contain some essential points within sentences. Non-finite construction is able to meet this challenge. Non-finite construction is a construction which contains non-finite verb or verb phrase which does not depend on person, modal, and tense, therefore it has a flexibility to be in any other word class position such as noun, adjective, or adverb. The data of this study were taken from Oxford Journals website containing article abstract of each published volume of journal. The researcher has taken 3 subject areas from 6 subject areas of the total 247 journals. Those 3 subject areas are social sciences, humanities, and law. There were 542 abstracts which were taken randomly from 15 journals. The data collection was completed by note-taking techniques and using recording method. The data were mainly analyzed by descriptive qualitative method which previously completed by quantitative method to arrive at percentage of the use of non-finite â��ing form verb. Then the result of analysis was presented informally. The study found that there were 1,132 of â��ing form of non-finite verb
