Summary:The welding process is usually performed for joining, similar materials and it is difficult to weld dissimilar metal. This research aims to study dissimilar metal welds between low carbon steel ST 37 and austenitic stainless steel SUS 304. The experiments were carried out using microscopy in combination with mechanical property tests such as tensile, impact, hardness, and bending tests. The welding process used was SMAW with current of 60 ampere. Electrode used were E 304 and R 990. Heat input was maintained low to avoid crack or embrittlement. Results of the research showed that the tensile stress of the weld made from R 990 electrode was 609 Mpa where as the maximum tensile stress of the weld prepare using E 304 electrode was 377 Mpa.
