總結:ABSTRACT Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is still a problem in Indonesia. This acute respiratory infection, especially pneumonia, is the main cause of child and under-five years old child mortality. Acute respiratory infection reached the highest among 10 main diseases with 11.8% proportion. In Kotabaru the prevalence in 1997 was 26.9% and 15.6%, and some turned to be pneumonia. Wrong early treatment process is one of the risk factors of death among children as a result of pneumonia. Inappropriate treatment of children with ARI will worsen the disease. Factor playing role in the status change from non-pneumonia to become pneumonia in home treatment others which may influence are nutritional status, breast feeding, Vitamin A, low birth weight, cigarette smoke pollution, kitchen smoke pollution, occupatient density and home ventilation. This study was aimed at finding out the relationship between treatment at home and pneumonia cases from ARI non-pneumonia. This was an epidemiological analytical study using nested case control method. The risk factor variables studied included treatment at home, nutritional status, Vitamin A supplementation, breast feeding, low birth weight, cigarette smoke pollution, kitchen smoke pollution, occupatient density and home ventilation. There were 142 subjects consisting of 71 cases and 71 controls. The cases were taken from those non-pneumonia and became pneumonia
