Description
Summary:Recently more than 125,000 ton of tailings per day have been produced by PT. Freeport Indonesia which has operated on Copper Mining in Tembagapura Irian Jaya. Those tailings have been dumped a long the Valley of Ajkwa river. Mechanical treatment has been done to separate Cu, Au and Ag from the rock mined. The residu which is called tailings still contain small percentage of some ores, i.e. : Cd, Cu, Pb, Hg, Se, As, Cr, Fe, Ni, Zn, Al, and Mn, and probably remainder of Au, Ag and Cu. Because the quantity of those valuable ores are very small, the experiment is suggested for extracting those ores from the tailings by using microorganism as Thiobaccillus thiooxidans or others which have a similar ability
