ABSTRAK Proportion of coronary heart disease as cause of death is increasing over years. The emergence of coronary heart disease is due to progressive atherosclerosis process as consequence of precipitation of fat and cholesterol in artery blood vessel. Vitamin C and vitamin E as the antioxidants have important role in increasing cholesterol metabolism, protecting Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol against oxidation and increasing level of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). The aims of the study was to find out effect of vitamin C and vitamin E supplement to the level of LDL, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride in coronary heart disease patients. The study was a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design. Samples were outpatient of coronary heart disease at Cardiology Polyclinic of dr. Slamet Hospital, Garut, aged 38-75 years, as many as 120 persons divided into 2 groups. Experiment group was given supplement of vitamin C with 250 mg dosage and vitamin E with 400 IU dosage twice a day and control group was given placebo. Intervention was given within 30 days and carried out in double blind. Datas about characteristics of subject were collected through interview and physical examination. Level of LDL, HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride was examined twice, before and after the experiment. Datas of nutrition intake were gathered using food record method and processed using Nutrisurvey Program.
