Description
Summary:Magelang is a city in Central Java with 119,329 settlers. This city contributes 300.33 m3 waste/day. Banyuurip landfill was built in order overcome this waste problem. Banyuurip landfill is located in District Magelang and very close to residential area. Leachate treatment in this landfill is not optimal enough that the leachate could potentially pollute groundwater. People around the landfill still utilize groundwater in their daily life. Therefore, health problems can occur if the groundwater is polluted. This research aims to (1) analyzed potential pollution of groundwater by leachate from Banyuurip Landfill, (2) analyzed leachate quality from landfill and groundwater quality around Banyuurip Landfill, and (3) reviewed health problems suffered by the people around the area due to the occurrence of polluted groundwater by leachate from Banyuurip Landfill. Methods used to determine potential pollution of groundwater is LeGrand Method. The contents of leachate and groundwater samples were known by laboratory test. Descriptive analyze is used to analyze leachate and groundwater quality. The content of leachate compared to waste water quality standards (for Bussiness and/or activities have not standardized yet) based on Central Java Province regional regulation No. 5, 2012, while the content of groundwater compared to the raw quality standard based on the regulation of the Minister of Health No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010. Groundwater polluted category analyzed with Polllution Index values. The result of this research are potentially, the area around Banyuurip Landfill belong to difficulty contaminated category and very difficulty contaminated category. The results of Polllution Index values calculation indicated that groundwater around landfill belong to lightly polluted category. People around landfill do not suffer from health problems after use groundwater around landfill, but heavy metal like cadmium and lead content in groundwater will be dangerous if they are accumulated by the body. More optimal treatment need to planning in this landfill leachate, so the leachate will not contaminate groundwater, one of those is by doing fitoremediation.
