總結: | Background : Osteoarthritis is musculoskeletal disorder which often affected by elders. Pain and functional impairment are important domain from this disease burden, and concurrently cause a significant deterioration on quality of life. TENS and hot compress are non pharmacological intervention that can be combined to each other. The research about the effect of TENS therapy and hot compress on knee osteoarthritis patientâs quality of life still limited.
Objective : This research is conducted to know the effect of TENS therapy and hot compress on elders quality of life who have knee osteoarthritis.
Method : This is randomized controlled trial with time series design. This research is held on February-April 2014 in Sleman. 16 subjects were take apart in this study and divided into 2 group, 8 subject in intervention group and 8 subject in control group. The intervention group got TENS therapy and hot compress, whereas control group got TENS therapy only. Quality of life was measure before, during, and after intervention. Data analysis were done by using Repeated Anova Test and Independent Sample T Test for normal data distribution, also Friedman Test for abnormal data distribution.
Result : Analysis in intervention group showed a significant change on Physical Function (p=0,038), General Health Perception (p=0,029), and General Mental Health (p=0,030), while in the control group, theres cant be found a significant change on all quality of life domain. Comparison between 2 group just give a significant different in one domain, thats General Mental Health with p value=0,036.
Conclusion : TENS therapy and hot compress are more effective in improving eldersquality of life on General Mental Health domain than TENS therapy only. |
