This research paper attempts to investigate the intrinsic elements of Najīb Maḥfū� short story �asy-Syafaq� and the relevancy of its elements which shape up the true meaning. The theory used in this study is structural theory and the method is structural analysis method which done through descriptive analysis. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be seen that the theme in this short story is about keeping ourself busy in many organizations are needed for spiritual and physical health, even for old people. There are two kinds of characterization in this short story, the main character and the extras. The main character is the �Aku� and the extras are father, uncle, aunt, Kh�lid Jal�l, Zuhaidah, a girl, and the girl�s father. This story uses progressive plot so that it is easy to be understood by the readers. The setting of the place is in Cairo while the setting of the time is about in 1979s. The social issue in this short story is about life a millionaire. The title of this short story �asy-Syafaq� can be translated to Indonesia as �Senja� and the and the point of view of this short story is the first person point of view. The elements that build this short story are related each other, so that it shape up the true meaning of the story.
