الملخص:The background for this research is existence of volcanic rocks that is andesite breccia in research site which was mapped as carbonate rocks from Sentolo Formation and quarternary volcanic sediment of Merapi volcano that was published in geological map of Yogyakarta (1997). The objective of this research was to determine stratigraphic relationship of vulcanic rocks unit and carbonate rocks unit. Administratively area for this research is located in Bangunjiwo Village, Kasihan, Bantul, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Geographically, this site is located in the UTM zone 49S coordinate positions of 9131655-9136595 N and 422057-427484 E. The research consist of two main stages they are: stage of problems identifying are recognaisance, study from secondary literatures, and hypothesis determining, also stage of problems solving are collecting, processing, and analyzing of data, then concluding. Methods used for this stage are geological mapping, rocks sampling for paleontology and petrography analysis, also laboratory observations for data collecting. Then methods of data analyzing by qualitatively to determine characteristics of litology, origins, lateral-vertical propagation and stratigraphic relationship for all of rocks units. Based on analysis result can be determined that the research area divided into six rocks units called: packestone-wackestone, packestone-grainstone, packestone-rudstone, andesite conglomerate-cristal tuff, andesite conglomerateandesite breccia, and pebblely sand. Carbonate rocks in this area are fossiliferous wackestone fossiliferous packestone, fossiliferous grainstone, fossiliferous rudstone, and marl. Volcanic rocks in this area are orthopyroxene andesite conglomerate, lithic tuff, crystal tuff, clynopyroxene andesite conglomerate, hornblende andesite breccia, and pebblely sand deposit. Carbonate rocks origins are at Middle Miocene-Late Pliocene (N10-N21) in lower bathyalouter neritic continuously. Volcanic rocks origins are at Pleistocene-Holocene in terrestrial-fluvial environment by mechanism of pyroclatic flow, traction flow, and mass flow uncontinuously. Stratigraphic relationship between volcanic rocks unit and carbonate rocks unit is unconformity, that is angular unconformity at certain place and erotional unconfomity plane as their contact.
