Summary:In Indonesia, wall is made by brick composition generally. However, wall making with this method has weakness in using mortar as inter material space that causes non-homogeny wall�s character. It causes the prediction of wall capacity will be hard to be done precisely. This research aims to know the behavior of mortar wall with horizontal reinforcement as alternative filler of wall material and its strength to supporting the given horizontal force. The using of horizontal reinforcement is expected to enlarge the stiffness, to reduce the risk of shear wall breakage, and to be an anchor between the mortar and column. In this research, two wall specimen models with 150 cm x 150 cm dimension and 10 cm thickness are made for mortar wall with �6-500 mm steel bar as horizontal reinforcement and concrete brick composition wall. Beam-column reinforcemnet in two specimen models are made with precast system. Each wall specimen is tested with static lateral load in the strong direction axis of the wall following ASTM E 564-00 that the result is estimated by manual analysis. The result is that the damage type in mortar wall with horizontal reinforcement and concrete brick wall is rocking failure. The lateral load capacity of mortal wall in yield condition is 26.57 kN, it has 20.99% higher than concrete brick wall which has value of 21.96 kN. Whereas, the lateral load capacity of wall mortal with horizontal reinforcement in ultimate condition is 36.99 kN, it is 2.63% lower than concrete brick wall which has value of 37.99 kN. When it is compared with manual analysis, the value of lateral load capacity for tested mortar wall with horizontal reinforcement is 5.03% lower in first crack condition, 18.17% lower in yield condition but 6,06% higher in the ultimate condition.
