總結:Polyvinyl alcohol is widely used as raw material on adhesives, protective colloids, and paper industry. The use of polvinyl alcohol as chemicals is also found in textile, pesticidse, cosmetics, and fertilizer industry. The preliminary design of polyvinyl alcohol plant is aimed to study the technical and economical feasibility of the plant upon establishment. Polyvinyl alcohol plant is designed at 30.000 ton/year capacity and to be operated continuously on 330 days/year. Vinyl acetate of 8,594.84 kg/hour and methanol of 3,008.19 kg/hour is used as raw materials, with 86,23% conversion of polimerization reaction. Methyl acetate is obtained as side product by 6,382.17 kg/hour. Polyvinyl alcohol is produced through two steps. The first phase is vinyl acetate polymerization by using solution polymerization method with methanol as the solvent. Polimarization is conducted on a continuous stirred tank reactor with azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator on 3 atmosphere and 80 0 C. The second phase is hydrolisis of polivinyl acetate by methanol using NaOH catalyst. Hydrolysis reaction is conducted on two continuous stirred tank reactors arranged in series on atmospheric pressure and 55 0 C. The plant is designed to be constructed in Bontang, East Borneo on a 46,000 m 2 area and employs 235 labors. Energy consumption is sought to be 3,543,645.60 kWh/year of electricity and 5,786.83 m 3 /year of diesel. The utility unit is designed to provide 5,233.75 kg/hour of water and 150 m 3 /hour of instrumental air. Total capital investment costs $ 50,965,527 and Manufacturing cost is standing at $ 113,240,556. Based on the economical feasibility study, polyvinyl alcohol plant is classified to carry low risk with 47.41% ROI before taxes, 1.74 POT before taxs, 55.08% BEP, 43.75% SDP, and 19.07% DCFRR. Considering the above technical and economical features, it is concluded that polyvinyl alcohol plant is appealing for further studies.
