Description
Summary:The goals of antihypertensive therapy in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients are to lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and slow progression of CKD. The objective of this study was to examine the trends of antihypertensive drug use patterns and evaluate the rationality of antihypertensive drug use in CKD patients at Bethesda Hospital Ward. The data in this descriptive restrospective study were collected from CKD patient medical record on 1st January until 31th December 2012. Antihypertensive drug use pattern was assesed based on antihypertensive drug class and their use in monotherapy or polytherapy regimens. The rationality of antihypertensive drug use, including appropriate indication, appropriate drug choice, appropriate patient, and appropriate dose, was evaluated respectively based on Pharmaceutical Care untuk Penyakit Hipertensi tahun 2006 and National Kidney Foundation Kidney Dialysis Outcomes and Quality Initiative (NKF K/DOQI) Guidelines on Hypertension and Antihypertensive Agents 2004. There were 73 cases collected in this study. Antihypertensive drug use pattern showed that poytherapy regimens were more commonly used than monotherapy regimens. Calcium Channel Blocker (CCB) was the most widely used antihypertensive agent. There were 66 cases (90,41%) using CCB in which 46 cases (63,01%) were used in polytherapy regimens. Evaluation of the rationality of antihypertensive drug use showed that 73 cases (100%) used antihypertensive agents with appropriate indication
