الملخص: | Sugarcane production in Indonesia faces many constraints, limitation of land for sugar planting is among others. This constraint leads sugarcane planting to marginal lands. Therefore mycorrhizal fungi is needed to promote growth of sugarcane on these lands. Research was conducted to study the most dominant Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) isolate, AMF inoculum propagation for starter, inoculation of cane cuttings, and determination of inoculum potential using Most Probably Number (MPN) methode. Six genera of AMF namely Glomus, Gigaspora, Acaulospora, Scutellospora, Entrophospora, and Sclerocystis were isolated from 8 locations. Infectivity tests using sugarcane PS 862 clone showed that M1 (Gringsing, Batang), M4 (Mlese, Klaten), M5 (Moyudan, Sleman), and M7 (Palihan, Kulon Progo) isolates gave high infectivity and might be used as candidates for biological fertilizer materials. Propagules or MPN test results showed that M1 (Gringsing, Batang), M4 (Mlese, Klaten), M5 (Moyudan, Sleman), and M7 (Palihan, Kulon Progo) isolates gave high number of propagules, indicated by their ability to infect 100% roots in each dilution treatment. Addition of AMF to sugarcane seedlings reduced the intensity of orange rust disease caused by Puccinia kuehnii. |
