الملخص: | Language play is one of essential parts of a language which can be found
in children stories. This research is aimed to describe forms, pragmatics deviation
as well as functions of language play in The Big Friendly Giant (TBFG) written
by Roald Dahl.
This research was a descriptive qualitative research in which the data used
is in form of verbal words or written words and explained through words. The
data source of this research was children story TBFG and the research object was
language play such as words, phrases and sentences. The data was collected by
reading TBFG carefully and repeatedly. Afterward, the data grouped according to
its category and finally analyzed in reference with the research problems.
The results of this research show that language play found in the data is in
forms of phoneme insertion, phoneme substitution in words or phrases, phoneme
deletion, similar vocal and consonant sounds, sound imitation, analogy
exploitation, spelling, and new words formation. Language play in the data is also
proven to have effect on cooperative principle, politeness principle and pragmatics
parameters. The functions of language play found in the data are as media of
creating humour, as media of criticizing, as media of expressing mood and feeling
and as a media of expressing taboo matter. |
