Description
Summary:Background: Chemotherapy is the main therapy for ALL which can boost the radicals formation. The free radicals enhanced an oxidative stress. This caused damaging process in the cell components such as lipids, carbohydrate and protein. Meanwhile, Lipid is the most susceptible molecule towards this free radicals. The reaction between them made a pre-oxidation form of Lipid called MDA. As a result, the concentration of MDA could be used as an indicator of free radical in the blood level. Purpose: To determine the correlation between the duration of Chemotherapy and MDA value in ALL patient. Method: We performed a cross sectional study among ALL diagnozed patient who had received chemotherapy in Dr. Sardjito Hospital between December 2010-July 2011. Result: Of 48 participants aged 2-16 years old. 19 included in induction phase, 15 in consolidation phase and 14 in maintenance phase. The sexual gender ratio was 1:1. The correlation between MDA value and the duration of chemotherapy was (r=-0.057, p=0.700). The average MDA values on induction, consolidation, and maintenance phase were 0.784 μmol/L, 0.699 μmol/L and 0.713 μmol/L respectively. The correlation between MDA values and the phase of chemotherapy of induction phase was (r=-0.032, p=0.895), consolidation phase was (r=-0.216, p=0.523), and maintenance phase was (r=-0,111, p=0.706). Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between chemotherapy and MDA value.
