Summary: | The existence of Muslim in the province of Bali has historically can be identified by
the presence of the traditional Muslim villages that since the entry of Muslim to the
Balinese island has occurred acculturation among Muslim architectural tradition with
the Balinese traditional architecture. Soko Muslim village is one of the traditional
Muslim village in the province of Bali is expected to begin existence early or mid- 18th
century BC to the present day still show the architectural tradition from the era of
inhabitant ancestor, so that they can be identified acculturation among inhabitant
architectural tradition which originated from Bugis and architectural tradition of Soko
Hindu villager. In the midst of cultural development experienced by most of the Muslim
community in the province of Bali impact can no longer be identified Muslim
architectural tradition in Province of Bali from the past period, thus making this
research is deemed necessary and important to do.
This research aims to determine the process and outcome of acculturation between
Muslim architectural tradition in province of Bali with Balinese traditional architecture,
so it can be known cultural identity of inhabitant and architectural diffuse strategy
undertaken inhabitant to get acceptance and recognition of their existence and
maintain their identity amid majority in the neighborhood of Hindu-Bali community.
Based on that background, the objectives of this research are (1) describe a form and
form principle of settlement architecture of Soko Muslim village, and (2) formulating
the factor that influence a form and form principle of settlement architecture of Soko
Muslim village.
To achieve the research objectives used a rationalistic paradigm with qualitative
deductive-inductive method which is derived from the phenomenological paradigm to
scope of method. Deductive method is used because this research use variable to
facilitate the process of research. Variable used consists of four elements of settlement
architecture are, (1) spatial organization element consist of variables spatial pattern,
hierarchy and value of space, and center of space, (2) shape element consisting of
variables form, dimension and scale, position, orientation, and material, (3) circulation
element consist of variables entrance and circulation paths, and (4) open space element
consist of variable functions. While the inductive method is used to explore the
research variables by placing an object of research in the natural setting.

results is formulated into two periods based on the living conditions of
Soko Muslim villages, (1) the period of inhabitant ancestor and disturbance by the
robber, and (2) the period of peace until the present. In the period (1), a form and form
principle of settlement architecture of Soko Muslim village predominantly formed by
tradition factor, defense factor, and factor of diffuse strategy through adoption of local
architectural tradition. While in the period (2), a form and form principle of settlement
architecture of Soko Muslim village predominantly formed by tradition factor, functional
factor, factor of diffuse strategy, and factor of identity strategy to show inhabitant
religious identity. Based on form and form principle of settlement architecture and the
factor which formed that can know identity of the inhabitant are, (1) Soko Muslim
villager have an identity as a Bugis warrior, and (2) Soko Muslim villager have an identity
as a Muslim-Bali. |
