Ahsanudin Attamimi SpOG(K) ETD Background: Caesarean section tends to increase performed recently due to various indications. Bladder catheterization is a common procedure before caesarean section. The common indications for indwelling urinary catheter use included: to improve exsposure a time surgery,to reduce possibility of injury urinary system during the surgery and monitoring of urine output and as marker of hemodynamic stability. However, use of an indwelling urinary catheter increases the rate of urine retention and urinarytract infections. Objective: To compare the incidence of urine retention ,urinary tract infections and risk factors of both urine retention and urinary tract infections. Design of study : Randomized control trial . Materials and Methods : The study was peformed caesarean section section at the Hospital Banjarnegara , Wates Hospital , and the Hospital Setjonegoro , for three months since July 2013 . Subjects who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into two groups , namely catheter stay 24 hours and 48 hours of each 53 samples . Then calculated the incidence of post caesarean section urine retention , urinary tract infection and risks factors both of urine retention and urinary tract infections. Research data include the characteristics and results of research conducted Chi-Square test. Results: This Randomized control trial study included 106 subjects. Not significant difference in age and parity characteristics of the study . Incidence of urine retention in 48 hours catheters was 20.7 %, higher than the 24 hours catheters. Number of urine retention increases when catheters longer maintained RR 5,50 ( 95% CI 1,28-23,69) . Increased incidence of urinary tract infection in a 48 hours catheter higher than 24 hours RR 2,80 (95% CI 1,08-7,22) . Incidence of urinary tract infection at the catheter stay 48 hours is 26.4 % , higher than the catheter stay 24 hours is 9.4 %. Urine retention tend to increase urinary tract infection p<0.05 . Age of the study subjects , type of anesthesia, and duration of surgery did not affect the incidence of urine retention and urinary infections, p>0.05. Conclusions : Incidence urine retention and urinary tract infections increased significantly in using indwelling catheter 48 hours than 24 hours stay and there was no risk factors cause of both of urinary retention and urinary tract infections.
