ETD The 1997-1998 economic crises in Indonesia was responded by the community in various forms. Among rural community the response is in the form of working in non-agricultural-informal sector, which can be understood bas their effort to be resilient. Economic resilience is identified by inherent and adaptive capability. In addition, economic resilience is defined as the ability to defend oneself as characterized by the ability to allocate and access resources as well as to create substitute products. The research is aimed to explain economic resilience among families of Susukan village, Comal, Pemalang, Central Java, who have the non-agricultural, construction proffesion of jolok. Jolok is substitude the previous migrant job of construction work that failed to provide adequate income. Using phenomenology perspective, this research is descriptive, analytic, and explanative. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interview, note-taking, documentation of picture and voices. The data were then reduce, presented and verified. The research revealed that by embracing the profession of jolok families in Susukan village experienced better than standard of living and earned better income. This was due to social networks formed among jolok, which was very extensive, covering upstream and downstream level of business.
