| Summary: | Parangtritis beach is one of tourism destination in Yogyakarta (DIY).
Horses were used to facilitates tourism to enjoy Parangtritis beach. It means the
health status of horses very important to the owner. Horse can be infected by
various disease similar with other mammals. One of those diseases is
endoparasitic infection and Parascaris equorum is one of the endoparasites. The
aims of this research were to find out the prevalence of ascariasis and the
association between farm management and ascariasis of horse in Parangtritis.
Eighty horse from 66 farmers were chosen as samples. Their feces were
taken for Laboratory diagnosis for ascariasis, used flotation method in
Parasitological Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine Faculty, Universitas Gadjah
Mada. Data were analyzed discriptively, Chi Square (�2) and Odds Ratio (OR) to
indentify the risk factors.
The result of this research showed that prevalence of ascariasis in farm
level was 24%, whereas ascariasis prevalence of the horses in Parangtritis beach
is 20%. Number of horses and litter of stables associated with the ascariasis. |
