الملخص:Phytoremidiation is a simple technique in waste water treatment processing, by utilizing the plant activity to remove, replace and stabilize or destroy the pollutant either organic compound or inorganic. This research utilizing water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) or popularly known as enceng gondok as the biofilter in handling the leachate produced from organic waste degradation. The purposes of this research are to study the ability of water hyacinth in absorbing N contained in leachate and determining the simple mathematic model from the water hyacinth upon the rate of N absorption. The experiment result shows that the concentration of total N in leachate affects the absorption rate of total N by the water hyacinth and growth rate of the plant which measured by the weight of the plant. The model fitting to the experiment data shows a good result. The value of metabolism reaction rate constant (kr) and absorption rate constant (k1) of each initial N concentration in leachate 151.03mg/L is 0,008042/day and 2,30811/day, at the leachate concentration of 316,48 mg/L is 0,00306/day and 0,52112/day, at leachate concentration of 602,6 mg/L is 0,00136/day and 0,2468/day, at leachate concentration of 738 mg/L is 0,00058/day and 0, 0,09449/day, at leachate concentration of 804.9 mg/L is 0,00029/day and 04576/day The results showed that the concentration of total N in leachate affects the rate of total N uptake by plants and water hyacinth plant growth measured by the weight of the wet plant. Suitability model was tested with experimental data is quite good. metabolic reaction rate constants (kr) and absorption rate constant (k1) for each initial total N concentration in the leachate is 151.03 mg/L of 0.008042/day and 2.30811/day, at a concentration of 316.48 mg/L of 0.00306/day and 0.52112/day, at a concentration of 486.51 mg/L of 0.00136/day and 0.2468/day, at a concentration of 602.6 mg/L at 0.00069/day and 0.14099/day, at a concentration of 738 mg/L of 0.00058/day and 0.09449/day and at a concentration of 904.9 mg/L at 0.00029/day and 0.04576/day. Comparison of the increase in mass of water hyacinth plants and the total amount of N absorbed an average of about 4.74367 mg total N/g plant. Total N concentration maximum leachate that can be tolerated by the water hyacinth plant was around 988.35 mg/L.
