الملخص:Neolitsea cassiaefolia (Bl.) Merr. is a plant species which belong to the familly Lauraceae. The alkaloid constituents of this species has not been investigated previously. The polar fraction of this species was obtained by extraction of the tree bark with methanol at room temperature. The base soluble fraction of the total alkaloid yielded a white yellowish crystalline compound, m.p. 119- 120°C. Based on spectroscopic data, included UV, 1H-NMR and Mass spectra the compound has been identified as N-methyl-1, 2-dihydroxy-9,10-dimethoxyaporphine, or lastourvilline, a known aporphine alkaloid previously isolated from Artabotrya lastourvillensis (Annonaceae). The oil fraction which was insoluble in basic solution yielded a yellow liquid compound. Based on spectroscopic analysis with UV, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and Mass spectra the compound was identified as bis-(2-ethylhexyl)- phtalate. Another compound was also isolated which decomposed at 198°C, hmax230 nm. Identification of this compound is still continuing.
