الملخص:Desulfurization of organic compounds is important in organic synthesis. Among various process, photocatalytic reaction is considered as green and sustainable transformation. In this work, we investigate dethiolation of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole by using Rose Bengal as photocatalyst. The optimization study reveals that the use of Rose Bengal, isopropanol as solvent, in the absence of base under irradiation with LED for 48 hrs lead to the formation of benzothiazole in 65 percent yield. Dethiolation products are fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry. Moreover, we successfully extend the scope of the reaction to subsequently bromination or form disulfide bond and generate the corresponding 2-bromobenzothiazole and 2-(4-chlorophenyl)benzothiazolyl disulfide in good yields.
