總結: | To develop a system that utilizes GPS-based data in managing a fleet of inbound trucks serving a distribution center (DC). The target of the system is to reduce the delivery delay by applying the local improvement technique (LI) and search mechanism to exchange assigements between the delayed truck and the remaining trucks. The system development utilizes data collected from three groups of companies including a GPS services provider, a trucking company having the GPS system in operation, and a trucking company representing the case for system testing. The developed system consists of 3 modules. The first module is the database module designed to manage and maintain the needed data. The second module is the initial schedule determination module employed to control the scheduling of the fleet operation. The third module is the module for determining scheduling and routing modifications. A hypothetical case is developed for validating the performance of the system. It is found that the system provides improvements in certain scenarios in which the rescheduling solutions proposed would resulting in reduced delay but a possible increase in operation cost due to the increase in distance. |
