Description
Summary:The main purpose of this research is to study the chemical kinetics of the synthesis biofuels from palm oil in supercritical alcohols via transesterification reaction. The condition were 325 to 400 C, 10-15 MPa, 9:1 – 21:1 alcohol to oil molar ratio and 2 – 10 minutes in batch reactor. The influence of molar ratio, temperature reaction time and alcohol type had a significant effect on percentage of yield. The kinetic model of transesterifiaction was pseudo-first order irreversible reaction. The reaction was performed at high temperature and molar ratio of alcohol to oil. The activation energies for the transesterification of palm oil are 81.42, 57.80 and 54.15 kJ/mol for methanol to oil ratio of 9:1, 12:1 and 15:1, respectively. The activation energies for ethanol to oil ratio of 15:1, 18:1 and 21:1 are 63.21, 62.64 and 57.12 kJ/mol, respectively.
