الملخص: | The objective of this study is to study the comparative political thought of Niccolo Machiavelli and David Beetham as it pertains to the issue of political legitimacy. The main resources used in this study are "The Prince" by Machiavelli and "The Legitimation of Power" by Beetham. Other resources used are all commentaries. The result of this study shows that even though there is 500 year gap between them but they both share most of the ideas. Legitimacy is the ability to manage social resources and values which include human freedom. This management structure is called "The Rule of Power". It is basically secured by using the armholders and the constitutional law. Moreover, the result of this study shows that the legitimate power can be illusionately created by the practice of power together with the ultimate belief in order to support the rule of power on purpose. |
