Description
Summary:The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to compare incidence of falls in surgical patients and nurses’ satisfaction before and after using risk management program. Study sample consisted of 871 surgical patients and 34 staff nurses. The instruments used were a risk management program, incidence of falls report, and nurses’ satisfaction questionnaire. All research instruments were tested for content validity by a panel of five experts and reliability. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for nursing risk management behavior observation and nurses’ satisfaction questionnaire were .93 and .88, respectively. According to the study program, collected incidence of falls in surgical patients and the 34 staff nurses were asked to complete nurses’ satisfaction questionnaire (1 month-interval before risk management program implementation) Then, 34 staff nurses were trained in the risk management program and implementation risk management program for 1 month. After the implementation, staff nurses were asked to complete the nurses’ satisfaction questionnaire and incidence of falls in surgical patients were collected. All data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, Z-test and t-test. Major results were as follows: 1.The incidence of falls in surgical patients after the implementation of risk management program were low than before, at the 0.5 level. 2.Mean score of nurses’ satisfaction after the implementation of risk management program were higher than before, at the 0.5 level. This result suggests that risk management program be effective to reduce incidence of falls in surgical patients and improve nurses’ satisfaction
