Summary: | To investigate local wisdom transmission process of Chiang Mai Local Artisans’ Lanna Tung paper carving technique. It was a qualitative research using document study, filed study, in-depth interview, and participatory observation from 7 local artisans. The data was analyzed by analytic-induction method and presented by description. The study found that : 1) The Chiang Mai artisans had been familiarized with Lanna environment, and this motivated them to absorb and interest in Lanna Tung paper carving. With the industrious learning and practicing, they have realized that Lanna Tung paper carving was a valuable cultural knowledge to pass on to new generations and this reason caused the origin of transmission. 2) The process of transmission was directly related with learning process. The proper teaching approach especially practical teaching made the learners to develop more skillful of Tung carving techniques. The related factors which could cause more effective transmission process are the readiness of the local artisans and the learners, the materials, contents, teaching approaches, artisans’ beliefs and spiritual worships. 3) The results of transmission had evaluated by the local artisans, the well transmission process had led to new professionals of Lanna Tung carving. It was cleared that local artisans not only taught Tung carving techniques but also taught moral values. The interaction between person and environment had caused the transmission process. As a result, the new generations will inherit the Tung carving techniques from old artisans. Moreover, local artisans were proud of their works as well as their learners. |
