This research aims to 1) analyze and explain the impact of political institutions on social development 2) analyze and explain the impact magnitude of political institutions on social development and 3) use in public policy and political methodology class The researcher reviews political economics theories on resource distribution given political regime types. They find that political democracy contributes to the expansion of resource distribution in social policies. Electorate has an incentive to elect ones who propose to distribute more resources and assistance. Meanwhile, elected incumbents have political and electoral incentive to promise policies that distribute more resources to social policies. The results show that political democracy has an impact on expansion of government expenditure on public health and basic education. Economic growth has a positive impact on expansion of public health and social security program expenditure. Finally, government effectiveness has an impact on expansion of social security program expenditure while rule of law has an impact on basic education expenditure.
