In societies that adopt a largely systemic patriarchal infrastructure, women find themselves and their desires falling prey to this seemingly invisible yet persisting gender injustice, where their perceptions of what contributes positively to their wellbeing faces a great danger of being coerced in favor of patriarchal norms. My paper will thus expose the manipulative forces of a patriarchal infrastructure in shaping the nature of a woman’s desire and reveal how coerced some of these desires end up being. In addition, I will evaluate the ways in which women can achieve freedom from coerced desires, to have desires of their own.
