Summary:ABSTRACT Food service in hospital is aimed to fulfil patient's nutritional need to support their recovery and reach optimum nutritional status. The government's policy of self-funding hospital, hospital is free to choose any method of food service for patients. Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo District Hospital currently uses catering service for patients' food service. This study was aimed at finding out the difference between hospital's food service for patients and that using catering service on food quality, food waste, and the lost cost from the patient's food. This was a quasi-experimental study with two-group post test-only design. Samples were 106 per group. Data on perception of food quality was measured with structured questionnaires
