Description
Summary:Wood produced by trees of the same species is often mistakenly assumed to be identical in structure and properties. In fact, different pieces of wood never iden¬tical and are similar only within broad limits, The objectives of this research was to study the variation of properties, the correlations among properties, and also poten¬sion uses of Melinjo wood. This research was arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two treatment. First facor was the axial position consisted of positions lower-end of the thrunk, middle of the thrunk and top of the thrunk, Second factor was the radial position consisted of positions close the pith, between pith and bark, and close the bark, Data was analysed by varians analysis, and to study the correla¬tion among the properties was used correlation analysis. The results of the research showed that basic properties of Melinjo wood was affected by position of wood in the thrunk. Wood close the bark had good prop¬erties. The highest holocelulose content was found on wood between pith and bark (80 %), The highest lignin content on radial position was found on wood close the bark (20,73 %), and on axial position was found on the midle of the thrunk (18,81 %). The highest fibre proportion was found on wood between pith and bark (50,75 %), The highest fibre length, specific gravity at equilibrium water content, compres¬sion strength parallel to grain, compression strength perpendicular to grain, and MOR value was found on wood close the bark in sequence were 2,18 mm; 0,69; 533 kg/cm2, 348 kg/cm", dan 948 kg/cm7, One property of the wood correlate with an¬other properties, The Melinjo wood acceptable to be used as pulp-paper material and also construction uses with 11nd quality,
