Summary: | The study was designed to examine of estrous cycles on Ongole Crossbred and Simmental Ongole Crossbred cows using vaginal smear. Three Ongole Crossbred cows and three Simmental Ongole Crossbred cows were used in this study. Vaginal smears were taken from epithelium of vaginal wall everyday for two estrous cycles. The smear were stained using 30% Giemsa�s solution. Symptom of estrous were observed based on changing of vulva appearances and behavior of cows. Physiological status was observed based on rectal temperature. Morphology of vaginal epithelial were analyzed descriptively, the number of superficial cells and rectal temperature were analyzed by Independent sample T-Test. The result showed that the changing of vaginal epithelial at the cycles of estrous cycle i.e parabacal cells, a intermediate cells, and superficial cells. Estrous in Ongole Crossbred were found when parabacal cells 13.84±3.89 and 14.61±2.68, intermediate 27.95±16.55 and 28.68±7.33, superficial 82.00±11.53 and 70.33±3.51. While in Simmental Ongole Crossbred cows were parabacal cells 16.63±4.45 and 15.37±7.01, intermediate 18.68±0.29 and 21.34±1.15, superficial 58.33±7.77 and 69.33±11.37. Rectal temperature of estrous in Ongole Crossbred 37.28±0.35oC, while in Simmental Ongole Crossbred cows 37.58±0.38oC. Changing of vaginal epithelial were clear in PO than in SimPO cows.
