الملخص:French tends to avoid passive voice while Indonesian, on the other hand, often uses passive voice. Although passive voice is found in the grammatical system of both languages, one language makes use of passive voice and the other avoids it. This shows that the reason behind this phenomenon could, perhaps, be caused by factors beyond linguistics and by the differences in the culture that follows the language. This Hypothesis is supported by the theory of relativism linguistic and determinism linguistic by Sapir-Whorf. Relativism linguistic suggests that each culture has their own way of perceiving reality and is projected into language. Whereas determinism linguistic indicates that not only the way of perceiving reality that influence the language but language also shapes how we see the world. This thesis relates the way of thinking of the speakers and their perception towards passive voice. The perception towards passive voice is shaped by several factors, including history, habit and how the speakers perceive reality.
