Summary: | The objectives of this research are to study a) preventive behavior concerning road traffic accidents b) injury prevention of former accident victims in Bangkok, and, c) the factors affecting preventive behavior concerning road traffic accidents of former accident victims in Bangkok who were inpatients of Police General Hospital during December 2005 and January 2006. Twenty in-depth interviews were conducted. Four major results are as follows: Among car drivers and motorcycle drivers who were the victims or perpetrator of the accident, more people who were victims reported practicing appropriate preventive behaviors than people who were perpetrators. The preventive behavior concerning the road traffic accidents of former accident victims in Bangkok occurred before and while driving. The injury prevention methods of former accident victims in Bangkok were helmet and seat belt use. Four significant factors affecting preventive behavior concerning road traffic accidents of former accident victims in Bangkok included; i) Driving experience and history of car accidents ii) Attitude towards preventive behavior iii) Value and attitude toward injury prevention and iv) Socialization Three significant factors affecting road traffic accident of former accident victims are i) Human ii) Vehicle and iii) Environment. Human factor had a higher correlation to road traffic accidents than vehicular or environmental factors. |
