總結:The Vietnam War is at the heart of displaced Vietnamese’s traumatic memories. While individuals suffered differently and may have different experiences, those of the same generation share similar trauma. Narratives of the first generation displaced Vietnamese revolve around their experiences of being marginalized within the Vietnamese community, namely by the communist regime and on the grounds of their mixed blood. Most of the one-point-five generation relate their personal trauma with that of their family members, and offspring often show interest in the trauma of their parents, as well as the desire to help them recover. Their identity as the narrators of their own stories is therefore usually eclipsed by those of the parents or other family members. The second generation and some of the one-point-five generation are haunted by the experience not directly inflicted upon yet passed down to them. Even after they have relocated elsewhere, the trauma of the war in their home country continues to follow them. The traumatic narratives of these displaced Vietnamese of all generations have become their tool for both trauma recovery and identity (re-)construction.
